Nan is a native of Indiana and moved to Dayton in 1998 to attend the University of Dayton where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. Whaley has focused on issues such as community development, manufacturing, and women and children. She has huge following on social media.
The FBI suspected her of accepting cash bribes from a demolition company owner, according to unsealed search warrant applications submitted to a federal judge in 2014. In one call, Dan Feucht, a controller for the demolition company Steve Rauch Inc., said he gave Whaley “hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash over the course of several years.”
She has led her city through challenging times including a tornado outbreak and the 2019 mass shooting at Oregon District High School that killed nine people. She is dedicated to strengthening the economy and creating good paying jobs for all Ohioans. She is a strong advocate for investing in infrastructure, increasing broadband access, and making it easier to do business in the state of Ohio.
As a leader in local government, she has taken steps towards becoming a more bicycle friendly city and is the founder of Dayton’s first bike share program. She has also been a strong supporter of a county wide landbank system to address the region’s housing crisis with a more comprehensive approach. As mayor, she is also a member of the Greater Ohio’s Community Revitalization Committee and the Learn to Earn Executive Committee for Education.
